Preparing Students for Success.
"Community colleges are one of the most important pathways to opportunity available to Californians. They serve students at every stage of life—from recent high school graduates preparing to transfer to a four-year university, to students learning a skilled trade, earning a professional credential, or returning to school preparing for good paying jobs.
I am running for the Los Rios Community College Board because I believe every student deserves access to a high-quality, affordable education that prepares them for what comes next. Los Rios should continue to provide strong academic programs for students pursuing four-year degrees while also expanding career and technical education programs that give students the practical skills employers are looking for.
I have seen the importance of that mission firsthand. I began my own career with paramedic training at Butte College and have spent decades teaching and educating others, including students at community colleges throughout California. I know there is no single path to a successful career—and our community colleges are uniquely positioned to connect education with real-world opportunities.
As a longtime public-sector leader, I also understand the responsibility that comes with managing taxpayer dollars. During my career, I oversaw multi-million budgets and helped lead complex public safety organizations that reported to elected or appointed officials. On the Board, I will bring that same focus on accountability, effective management, and delivering results for the public."
I will work to ensure Los Rios remains focused on its core mission: providing an excellent and affordable education, preparing students for good-paying jobs and careers or successful university transfers, and giving people throughout our region the opportunity to build a better future for themselves and their families.
